Lecture handout (2003) for Antibacterial Agents 3

I have provided below a link to my old (pre-2001) lecture handouts for the chemotherapy section of the second-year medical pharmacology course. The approach used is quite different from that of the standard medical texts. The drugs are grouped by their mechanism of action rather than their use in medical practice. See the Introduction for further information.

The complete set of lectures is in Adobe PDF format and consists of the following sections.

    Introduction

    Antifolates

Drugs Interfering with Nucleic Acid Synthesis

        Purine and Pyrimidine Biosynthesis

        Agents Affecting Polymerization

        DNA Repair

        Agents reacting covalently with DNA

        Agents which intercalate into DNA

        Topoisomerase inhibitors and other Agents

        Study Questions

    Inhibitors of Protein Synthesis

    Drugs Affecting Cell Wall/Membrane

    Miscellaneous Agents

    Study Question Answers
