The software can record images directly to hard drive for a time period that is dependent on the size of the disc.

We use a 36Gbyte drive. This consists of 2 x 18Gbytes configured as a striped volume to give a data rate of 45 Mbytes/second. This software can record at 60 fps / 200 line images. We also use the software to record at 240 fps for the analysis of ciliary activity onto a 144 Gb disc (4 x 36 Gb drives with a data rate of 120 Mbytes/sec).

Playback is equally easy and requires only  the selection of the image range. Images can be played back at speeds faster than they were recorded at. This ideal for time-lapse studies. 

Images can be exported in a variety of file formats  for use with other software analysis packages. MPEG movies can be easily made.

Video Savant supports a variety of frame grabbers so use of the Mu-Tech board is not essential.
